One day I'll be able to say, "I saw him when". That was running through my head as I watched Hollywood Records recording artist Adrian Lyles at the Echoplex last week. It was the final night of his "i can't hear you" tour which had taken him from New York to his hometown of Los Angeles and everywhere in between, with only a couple of days off on the entire tour. As direct support for another Hollywood act Almost Monday, Adrian took the stage in front of a packed house, and it was clear from the get-go many folks were there to see him. From the opening notes of "Somewhere To Go" he took immediate command of the room, pacing the stage with the eager enthusiasm of someone who was achieving his dream, and loving every minute of it. He engaged the audience between songs with stories of his path to this moment, thanking his family for their undying support, driving him from gig to gig as a kid. There was no way anyone seeing him for the first time could have guessed this was his first US tour. His amazing voice, style, and showmanship would leave you to believe he's been doing this forever. There is no question in my mind that Adrian Lyles is going to be a star. Big thanks to Kate Hackman and the folks at Hollywood for inviting me out. Make sure to keep an ear our his songs "Somewhere to Go" and "King of Everything" as they play overhead in retailers everywhere.
