"Campfire Symphony"

"I wrote Campfire Symphony a few months before the passing of my brother, who had struggled with addiction and homelessness. At the time, I had no idea what the song was about other than the fact that my son was hosting campfires in our backyard every week with his friends. At first, I thought the song was mostly a tribute to the magic of nature all around us, but It took on a deeper meaning just a few months later."

Out & About with Shawn Jones and Shane Alexander
at The Hotel Café in Hollywood, CA on Friday, August 22nd, 2025

A couple of Fridays ago, we attended the album release party for The Imaginaries' new album FEVER. We were looking forward to seeing them, making sure to arrive early so we wouldn't miss a note. Thank goodness we did, or we would never have caught the amazing performers, Shawn Jones and Shane Alexander, opening the show.
Southern California native singer-songwriter Shawn Jones started things off. It was clear from the moment he took the stage that he was no stranger to the road. Shawn is a cool customer with natural talent. His songwriting skills are impressive, and his guitar playing is amazing. Shawn took the audience through his decades-long career, and the folks enjoyed every moment. As he went through his set, the applause increased in appreciation. Shawn has shared the bill with such acts as B.B. King, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Willy Nelson, and more. Make sure to catch him when he comes to your town.
Next up, Shane Alexander. An equally talented and seasoned performer, Shane brought light-hearted, comical banter between songs, a solid trait of an experienced performer. Shane, also an excellent songwriter, had a more moody, melodic delivery, which the crowd really enjoyed. Shawn has opened for such acts as Bon Iver, Lucinda Williams, Seal, Jewel, and Suzanne Vega, to name a few. If he comes to your town, make sure to check him out.
Have a great week,
Scott Emerson
