Family First

The Music industry is a small, tight-knit community. It's common for us to refer to our industry, radio, or label mates as family. We keep in touch with each other as best we can and when one of us is in need, the rest of us rally together to help out. Well, one of our industry family members is in need and could really use our help. Many of you know him, John Nicholson, from A&M and more recently Hollywood Records. Those of you who know John and have worked with him, you know he's "one of the good ones". He's got a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

Here's What's Going on. John's son Tate suffers from a sever and nonstop battle with kidney stones. It's as bad as it sounds and worse. I'm sharing John's recent heart wrenching social media post in hopes that someone reading it may have a suggestion or an idea on how to help get Tate the relief he so desperately needs.

"Long post. We are at a loss on what to do..I wish that I was writing to tell you that Tate as doing well and the medication we fought for has cured him, unfortunately that is not the case. I am hoping and praying that by sharing this post that we can find someone that can help or knows someone who can. We are desperate to find anyone that can get Tate relief for his chronic kidney condition. 10 trips to the Mayo Clinic in Arizona have not helped. His medical records are becoming as thick as encyclopedias. We are willing to go anywhere in the world. Please share..hopefully your/our network knows just the right Doctor/Hospital/Specialists." Continue reading the whole story here.

Tate gave Garth a tour of the rec room at children's hospital (Garth gave the money to furnish it)

"So Groovy"

"'So Groovy' was written in Stockholm, Sweden at Ten Music Group (the publisher/studios for Swedish popstars Icona Pop, Zara Larsson, Benjamin Ingrosso) in summer of 2023. I wanted to write an upbeat feel good dance song after having written many times with produce Gustav Blomberg of Ten Studios, so we began creating "So Groovy" together. Upon completion of the song I felt like filming a music video in Miami had to happen. "So Groovy" reminded me a little of Gloria Estefan's "Rhythm is Gonna Get You" in some sonic way. The director I chose for the video - Dmitry Zhitov is a friend of Gloria's so we filmed at her iconic South Beach in Miami hotel - Cardozo with actress Eva Bauch. I love that the music video feels as though it was filmed in the 1980s or 1990s because Dmitry filmed with his Sony c100 - that has an old school film quality - not digital."

What's In-Store Music

Saturday, April 27th at Sagebrush California

Not every music industry night out needs to be a concert or client showcase. Sometimes it's all about cocktails and cover bands. Such was the case last Saturday night when What's In-Store Music's Scott Emerson, along with his wife Monica, hosted some friends at the San Fernando Valley staple, the Sagebrush Cantina!!! Bottoms up everybody!!!

Have a great week,

Scott Emerson
