He’s Number One!

We have a new No. 1 on the What’s In-Store Music Charts this week: Loretta Records recording artist Jordan Frye’s "Daydreaming."

Jordan is living proof that a great song is a great song. When the music fits what programmers are looking for, it can thrive in the overhead music space. In-store play remains one of the few places where independent artists share the same playlist as some of today’s biggest stars, all competing for your attention while you shop, dine, or spend time with friends.

In fact, I found myself doing exactly what we always encourage artists and fans to do. While walking through Walmart last week, I heard "Daydreaming" playing loud and clear overhead and immediately pulled out my Shazam app to see what was playing. Sure enough, it was Jordan Frye.

Even after eleven years of doing this job, I still get a kick out of Shazaming a What’s In-Store Music client. Seeing independent artists reach listeners in real-world settings never gets old, and hearing a song like "Daydreaming" topping our charts is a reminder of just how powerful those moments can be.

“Daydreaming” is rooted in Jordan Frye’s belief that imagination and memory are often intertwined. Frye has described himself as someone whose dreams can feel so real that it becomes difficult to separate the past from possibility, and that many of his songs begin as vivid daydreams that eventually bloom into music. The song captures the feeling of longing for someone who isn't there, getting lost in memories, imagined moments, and the possibility of what could be. With its nostalgic imagery and romantic storytelling, “Daydreaming” is about living in that space between reality and desire, where love continues to exist in your mind long after the moment has passed.
