What's In-Store Music Vacation Alert

The What's In-Store Music office will be closed starting next week, from Monday, July 15th through Monday, July 29th, for our summer vacation, re-opening on the 30th. The charts will be frozen on 7/22/24 and 7/29/24 and reports will be suspended for those dates as well. Both will return the following week. You can submit songs for In-Store play during this time and we will ensure they are put in front of the programmers for consideration and confirmed upon our return. Thank you for your continued support and patience during this brief hiatus.

"Steady"

"'Steady' is about staying the course through difficult times. Hope and perseverance are topics I tend to come back to in songwriting, but I like checking in and seeing where I’m at with those emotions. With 'Steady' I felt a calm sense of resolve. Like accepting my situation and moving forward no matter what. The instrumental was based off of some synthwave we had been listening to at the time, specifically the artist Home. We heard of Home through speedrunning history YouTuber, Summoning Salt, so we decided to throw in a reference to “record time” in the verse. Some of the other verse lyrics were inspired by me envisioning a rocking ship when I heard the instrumental. A fun fact about the song is that our dad sings on the bridge. For gang vocals it’s best to have a bunch of people singing, so we got him in the vocal booth since he was already at the studio with us watching the production process. Now he tells everyone that he’s a singer on the radio, which is technically true."

Out & About with The Warning
At the World-Famous Whiskey A-Go-Go on the Sunset Strip
June 26, 2024
I had no idea what I was walking into when I entered the Whiskey on Sunset two Wednesdays ago. I knew I was there to see a female rock band, but nothing could prepare me for what I was about to witness. On what could only be characterized as a sleepy night on the strip, the opposite was the case inside this shrine to rock and roll. Three Latina sisters, Dany, Paulina, and Alejandra Villarreal Velez, from Monterrey Mexico, known collectively as The WARNING were not messing around when they took the stage for this packed show. They weren't awesome for a group of girls; they were awesome period! I haven't heard a three-piece band this tight in a while. These ladies had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands from the opening power chords at the start of the show to the final crash of the cymbals that ended it. There to promote their latest album release, "Keep Me Fed" (out now), they left the crowd wiped out from the high energy, powerful, wall of sound they were putting forth. The WARNING has a solid fanbase which only grows with each performance. I know I can call myself a fan after that experience. If you get a chance to see them when they are in a town near you, make sure to do it, I guarantee you will be blown away. Big thank you to my good friend Patricio Sanchez for bringing me with you to the show…I still owe you drinks for your 40th Birthday!

Have a great week,
