Christmas Music Season Starts in 3,2,1…
Okay, let me explain that headline. Christmas music season, as in, when we start hearing it overhead in stores, is still a few months off. Preparing for it, however, begins in roughly three weeks. Trust me when I tell you, that's not just for In-Store play. Radio programmers will get their logs together in preparation as well. Most programming for the holidays is already well underway, with the heavy lifting completed in advance, so all that's left to do will be adding any new things that may come their way between now and Christmas. When artists send us music in mid to late November or early December asking if it's too late to submit it, the answer is no because we can still get it up and running for you. But if you want to make the most of the short timeframe that makes up the holiday music season, it's best to get it in by September. On November 1st, while many of us are still trying to wash off the remaining face paint from Halloween the night before, the first notes of Christmas music will begin playing overhead in some retailers. From there it increases steadily until it reaches a fever pitch just before Thanksgiving and Black Friday! Eating Fresh With What's In-Store Music
I often say I can't walk into a SUBWAY sandwich shop without Shazaming a What's In-Store Music client. Naturally, I say it in jest, but it's true. Subway is one of my go-to spots to grab a quick sandwich and get back to work. While the crew prepares my food, I always use Shazam while I wait. Inevitably I usually capture a song from at least one client and sometimes two. I've done it so many times, that I decided to make a playlist consisting of 270 of the songs we've placed in this popular chain and that's not even all of them! Go ahead and browse through it, and see if you're in there. While you're at it, check out some of the wonderful artists who've played overhead over the years. There's some good stuff on there.

Kartik Kuna ft. L-FRESH the LION

"This song is an anthem about being the BOSS of your life, and is also the title track to my debut album 'C.E.O' dropping on 1st Nov 2024.
We originally wrote this song at a songwriting camp called 'Resound' in November 2020 (Sydney, Australia) for a J-Pop group called Ballistik Boyz as that was the pitch. It had a dance break and a very cheesy rap that I wrote haha. However, after 2 years of it not getting picked up, a friend from the camp asked: "Why don't you release it as a Kartik Kuna song?"
I wanted to include a Bhangra breakdown in the song and to collab with L-Fresh the LION (a Punjabi rapper from South-West Sydney) to celebrate my Indian roots, in addition to having 'Down to Bhangra' (as seen on Australia's Got Talent S10) feature in the music video that is out now!
The message is simple: we can all be the C.E.Os of our lives no matter what age, colour or gender we are."

Out & About with Scott Emerson
in Croatia
The What's In-Store Music offices were closed for two weeks for our summer break and boy was it worth it. This week's Out & About is proof of that. We spent two weeks in Croatia, visiting Dubrovnik, Hvar, Vis, Mjet, Trogir, Ston, Split, and Korcula, by boat. If you ever get the chance to do it, I can't recommend it enough. We walked around a lot, did olive oil tasting, wine tasting, and of course a lot of Gelato tasting. While there I did what I always do when visiting a foreign country, I Shazam'd songs everywhere I went. Here are some photos from the trip as well as my new Spotify Playlist: Cruisin' Croatia. Enjoy!
