Celebrate May with What's In-Store Music

Tomorrow, we flip the calendar to May 1st. May is a month filled with holidays, including Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Cinco De Mayo, and Star Wars Day! (May the 4th be with you). Add to that all the graduations across the country, and most Americans will be out and about celebrating something! Luckily, out and about is where What's In-Store Music exists. Stores, restaurants, malls, hotels, country clubs, gas stations, and recreational areas. What's In-Store Music clients can be heard in all these types of places. To ensure your music is playing overhead and available to be discovered during this busy time, you'll want to submit your song to us sooner rather than later. If you're ready, you can submit it right HERE!

Arctic Wave
"Where There's Smoke There's Fire"

"Smoke" is a send-up of internet dating based on the writer's personal experience, with some permitted hyperbole. This rock-funk-rap mashup captures the excitement and (mis)truth-in-advertising that often accompanies internet dating, citing "airbrushed faces and photoshopped smiles." The content humorously depicts the casual relationship with the truth held by some members of internet dating sites. At the same time, the song grooves strongly, then funks loudly, in a refrain - "You're the prettiest girl I never knew" - that will surely resonate with veterans of the internet dating scene. As the song infectiously says, "Buyer beware!"

Out & About with Street Performers in Japan

April 5th - 18th, 2025

(Click the image to watch the full video of performers!)

While traveling abroad, I am always attracted to the street performers in the cities I visit. Japan was no exception. Although I didn't see a ton of performers, I did notice that they were all strategically set up for maximum exposure. The musicians knew where their music would best be received and took full advantage of the location. We saw a young band performing at the opening of Ueno Park on the last night of the lantern lighting of cherry blossom season, a smooth guitar player grooving alongside a river in Kyoto, a popular hangout for couples to stroll. One young lady with a bit of edge to her placed her tip jar across from the opening of Takeshita Street, a bustling tourist area full of funky food stands, cosplay costume boutiques, and creative entertainment venues. More traditional Japanese music was performed in historic parts of town. There are many different environments throughout the country, and the street performers provided the soundtrack for all of them.

Have a great week,

Scott Emerson
