In Time by alice the g00n

"There's a great description: '… like a knife-fight in a phone booth.' It conjures up claustrophobia, frenetic scrambles, and critical stakes. I heard it from a friend, as he described what he'd do if someone tried to fight him in an Uber. It was unintentionally hilarious. He told me all guys do this sort of combat-response mental-prep, in the Home Depot aisles, on the walks to their car in the parking garage. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it's OK to be afraid of the unknown. For me, the trick to navigating my fears is getting familiar with them.

For 'In Time' I wanted to connect Chapter 1 (CYA) and Chapter 3. Both of them take place in important locations, so the logical choice was to show the travel from A to B in an interesting, engaging way. I had this flash of my friend's car-fight, and decided to set the antagonist up at the end of 'CYA'. My stunt coordinator (Frank Trigg) barely fits in the VW Bug, so planning a ludicrous fight for the two of us was a challenge. I had some training with in-vehicle combatives, and so we used some of that for the process of moving from drivers side, to the rear-passenger's, and back behind the wheel. I wanted to flip "always check your back seat" and "look underneath your car for creepers with razorblades" advice into a comedy. Take the reductive stuff women hear all the time, and rob it of its power.

When something feels scary, or it's supposed to intimidate me, I'm going to find a way to laugh at it. The lyrics I wrote for "In Time" reflect my attitude in those situations. It's coming from a position of power, of experience, where the boogeyman is risible. It's more fun than spinning on a hamster wheel of impractical self-defense scenarios. There's a difference between being prepared and being perpetually scared. Take the danger, take the nightmarish threat, and laugh it down to size. Take the backseat-stalker breathing down your neck, and make him ridiculous. How tough can you *really* look when you're steering with your buttcheeks?"
