"You & I" was written with my best friend and producer, Matt Legrand in his apartment in Chicago almost a year ago today. Matt had a piano part that he was unable to write lyrics to and sat at the piano and played it for me and I immediately started singing the entire chorus line by line and it was the first time in my life I had ever written something that way and that quickly. We wrote the entire song in ten minutes. From there, I knew this song was incredibly special and it will always be one of my favorite songs that I've ever written. "You & I" is about coming to terms with your relationship with someone and fully accepting it for what it is and no longer thinking about what it could be. This song is raw and honest and I really want the listener to connect with it from a genuine place.- Danielle
